Forest Management Planning for Timber Production: A Sequential Approach
نویسنده
چکیده
Explicit forest management planning for timber production beyond the first few years at any time necessitates use of information which can best be described as suspect. The two-step approach outlined here concentrates on the planning strategy over the next few years without losing sight of the long-run productivity. Frequent updating of the long-range and short-range plan makes it possible to keep a dynamic posture. Instead of one single objective of maximization of discounted present net worth, there are two objectives. The short-run objecttive implicitly maximizes the volume or the discounted present net worth of timber harvested curing the first rotation, subject to equal area constraint; the long-run objective explicitly maximizes the rate of return to the land either as timber volume (MA1) or annualized land rent. The reduced size of the two problems makes this: approach extremely practical.

Integrating Timber Price Scenario Modeling with Tactical Management Planning of Private Forestry at Forest Holding Level
In forest management planning, deterministic timber prices are typically assumed. However, real-life timber prices vary in the course of time, and also price peaks, i.e. exceptionally high timber prices, might occur. If land-owners can utilise the price variation by selling timber with the high prices, they are able to increase their net revenues correspondingly. In this study, an approach is p...

متن کاملSpatial Forest Harvest Scheduling for Areas Involving Carbon and Timber Management Goals
Forest carbon sequestration has become an important ecological service for human society. Given the widespread attention paid to global climate change over the last few decades, a potential need has arisen to develop forest management plans that integrate carbon management and other spatial and non-spatial goals. The objective of this research was to develop a spatial forest planning process by...
متن کاملChapter 12 Public Timber Supply under Multiple - Use Management
In many parts of the world, substantial shares of timber inventories are managed by government agencies. The objective of this chapter is to examine the potential influence of public timber production on market structure as well as on prices, harvest quantities, and economic welfare. National forest management in the United States is used as a tractable case study, but findings provide general ...
